❋ context

Vi, Portuguese for “I saw,” is a project that invites people to discover unusual corners and hidden details of Aveiro. Telescopes and zoom lenses of different kinds are placed around the city, each pointing at something easy to miss, and a map guides visitors from one to the next.

The identity is built on the name itself: the letters are drawn so the i becomes a person looking through the v, which acts as a lens. That simple gesture carries across the logo, the map and the wayfinding, turning the act of observing into the project’s visual signature.

Developed as a university project for a competition.

❋ the challenge

The map is organised into five colour-coded routes, each with its own name and icon drawn from a landmark of the city:

Yellow route: Vi o jardim (I saw the garden): a well-known building set in one of the city’s gardens.

Green route: Vi o futuro (I saw the future): a structure from the University of Aveiro.

White route: Vi a história (I saw history): a church.

Orange route: Vi a ria (I saw the Ria): a historic factory building beside the lagoon.

Blue route: Vi algo novo (I saw something new): an Art Nouveau building, a style Aveiro is known for.

Each route name completes the sentence started by Vi, so the identity reads as a series of discoveries.
